| Rescuers described how they removed two people from a plane crash on power lines. | - The team of firefighters and utility crews in Montgomery County knew they were in for a once-in-a-career experience as they plotted the rescue of two people stranded amid high-voltage power lines 100 feet in the air Sunday night.

| Maryland investigated 23 fatal encounters involving police over the past year. | - The state created the Independent Investigations Division to improve police accountability. The first report, released this week, showed that 14 people killed by officers were Black, three were Hispanic and at least five were White.

| Loudoun County's school board approved a policy regulating "sexually explicit content." | - What's new: Schools must notify parents 30 days in advance when teaching materials include such content. Parents have the right to review the lesson and request an alternative assignment.
- Why? A law passed earlier this year says Virginia's 133 school districts must adopt versions of guidelines regulating the handling of sexually explicit material. The measure has been controversial because some say schools could become less safe for LGBTQ students and employees.

| Today's Perspective | From Courtland Milloy: Relocating FBI headquarters to Prince George's County is fine, but leave J. Edgar Hoover's name behind.
