And as so happens with mass shootings in this country, the discovery of 53 human beings found dead inside an abandoned tractor-trailer near San Antonio prompted little to no action from our lawmakers.  These were 53 people who were seeking a better life here in the United States and were willing to do anything to make it happen. But as Enrique Acevedo wrote in his op-ed, our broken immigration system makes it possible for these tragedies to continue year after year: "Instead of perceiving border security as part of a broader strategy, Washington became obsessed with sealing off borders to stop undocumented migration. It's a failed experiment with severe consequences for the lives and human rights of those crossing the border."  We need real reform, not rhetoric.
