Recent numbers: Five people were killed in three separate shootings on Saturday and Sunday. D.C. police statistics show 35 people have been victims of homicides this year. Overall trend: Violent crime, as a whole, is down 10% since Jan. 1, in part due to a drop in robberies, according to police. Read this story     Daniel Snyder's latest demands have renewed talks of voting him out. What happened? The Washington Commanders owner and his attorneys have demanded that fellow NFL franchise owners and the league indemnify him against future legal liability and costs if he sells the team, The Post reported yesterday. Why it matters: Some owners are angry about the demands and could consider a vote to remove him from the ownership ranks if he does not end up selling the team. Read this story     Maryland's governor picked a gas industry official to help regulate the gas industry. Gov. Wes Moore (D) nominated Juan Alvarado, a senior director at the American Gas Association, to the Public Service Commission. The group, which regulates utility companies, plays a key role in efforts to combat climate change. The nomination now needs to be confirmed by the state Senate. Some concerns: Environmentalists worry that Alvarado will hinder efforts to phase out natural gas, given his past support of the fossil fuel. An ambitious state climate law calls for reaching net-zero emissions by 2045. Read this story     ADVERTISEMENT     Not all Maryland Democrats support automatic minimum-wage hikes. What to know: Gov. Moore launched his campaign yesterday to tie minimum-wage increases to the consumer price index. He argued that linking increases to inflation would help reduce child poverty and loosen the tight labor market. The issue: Key leaders in the Democratic-dominated General Assembly are skeptical of putting wage policy on autopilot, even as they may support accelerating a $15 minimum-wage plan. The Commanders also let go of defensive back Bobby McCain. The two moves save the team nearly $29 million in salary cap just weeks before the start of free agency. Read this story     Dulles Toll Road will no longer accept cash starting tomorrow. The toll road is one of the last roadways in the region to shift to all-electronic tolling. About 2% of drivers paid tolls in cash last year, according to officials. Accepted payments: E-ZPass; one of four approved mobile apps in Virginia; or having your license plate scanned and receiving a monthly bill in the mail. Non-E-ZPass methods require a service fee. (AK Blythe) The details: Linling Lu's show of color-field paintings, "Soundwaves," was inspired by a chamber concert hosted at the Dupont Circle gallery. It runs through April 30. Her background: Lu trained as a classical pianist as a child in her native China but switched to painting. She moved to Baltimore in 2006 to study at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
